Player Aquisitions

The Oceanside Generals have acquired the CAHA playing rights for 20 year old Parksville resident Sam Corcoran in exchange for futures. The 6'2" 200 lb rearguard has played a key role for the Beaver Valley Nitehawks of the KIJHL for the last 3 seasons. Sam is another big puck moving defenseman that will play key power play minutes, provide leadership and add toughness. With hosting the Cyclone Taylor Cup, having Sam come back home is not only a huge signing for our hockey club, but we are thrilled he gets to play his last year at home in front of his family and friends and now makes 3 Corcoran's that have been Oceanside Generals.

Announcement

The Oceanside Generals Players, Coaches and Staff, and the Board of Directors, wish to give a very special “Thank You”, to all our Sponsors, Fans, and Volunteers, for your dedicated support of a team that Oceanside can very proudly call its own. Our purpose is to represent our community to the best of our ability and putting a Championship Trophy inside Oceanside Place has put our community in a spotlight of sorts. And all because of the generosity of every one in Oceanside.

Our operating budget has doubled over the last six years, and the product on the Ice has been directly affected by this increase in spending, over ninety percent of which was spent locally. We feel that our contribution financially, to the community, can be augmented in the future with other special events that bring out of town visits, and new opportunities for our business sector in these hard times.

Again, Thank You, Oceanside, Our Organization is your team, and you, too, are a Champion!

Cyclone Taylor Cup

The Oceanside Generals can be proud to bring a Bronze Medal home to Parksville today, after beating the Abbotsford Pilots 5-3 in Richmond. The game was basically won in the first period, as the Generals skated to a 3-0, first period lead, and hung on for the win, despite a second period surge from the PIJHL team. Curtis Yates from both Morgan's, opened the scoring, while Connor, and David Williams, set up the second by Kyle Kramer. Curtis Yates added his second of the game on a penalty shot, awarded for covering the puck in the crease. Abbotsford got one back in the second on the power play, before Oceanside made it 4-1, off Kramers stick again. Abbotsford made it 4-3 on two quick markers, one with the extra man, and the second, just after an Oceanside penalty expired. Taylor Morgan sealed the deal on an empty net goal, assisted by Yates. Goaltender Steven Bolton was outstanding in the third period especially, and over all, both tenders, Bolton and Stephen Wolff were very strong all tournament. The Parksville defense, welcomed Chad Plouffe back in the lineup, but missing Ty Johns, showed how deep they are on the blueline, with Jordan Robinson, Paul Graham and Nick Bell seeing more action, and Vets Peter Funnell, and Brad Knapp, made this a formidable place to play. The Penalty Kill was tenatious with Kyle Yamasaki having a strong tourney, paired usually with Kevin Gray, and Scott Austin. The Yates, and Morgan twice line was on fire in the last game especially, as Coach Johnston wasn't shy at shaking things up. Always dependable, Matt Potter, Sam Kobe, and Doug Hulme, were instrumental in forcing everything and making things happen, as did the Kyle Bixby, Williams, and Kramer line. Alternates Brandon Forbes, and Andrew Corbett along with regulars, Brodie Gibbon, and Adam Desjardins, got limited action in the short tournament, but stepped up when needed, and also got some valuable experience for next years run for the Cup. The tournament will be held on the Island and the host league has two positions to award, making the Gens job a little easier to return for a second chance. For the graduating players, all seven twenty year olds, will be able to say they won their last game of their Junior Hockey Career. Thank you Generals, you all have contributed to a fantastic season, but hope to improve next year.

The Oceanside Generals scored first in Game five for the fourth time in a row and swept the last four games of the Championship series, defeating the past Champion Victoria Cougars 6-5, Thursday night in Victoria. Ocenside went up by two. three minutes after, Chad Plouffe letting one go from the point, from Morgan again. Victoria cut the deficit in half, on the power play,(1-3)before the end of one. The Gens opened the scoring in the second as well, when Matt Potter found the net behind Starter Max Pelzner, from Doug Hulme and Brad Knapp, all twenty year old in their last year, but Victoria cut that lead to one, shortly after. The Gens scored two more in the period to make it 5-2, with their second power play marker on David Williams first gaol on the night. Peter Funnell and Sam Kobe assisted, and then, Kyle Bixby scored his second of the game unassited on a takeaway in the offensive zone. Victoria would score the next two to make it 5-4, when David Williams, scored the winner, twenty one seconds after Victoria scored their forth of the game. Victoria wasn't done yeat as they came within one, late in the game on the penalty kill. The last five minutes were tense for both clubs, but even with the goaltender on the bench for the extra man, Victoria didn't get much to the net. The hundred or so Oceanside fans were exhuberant most of the night as their team never trailed, showing their devotion to their team, and appreciated by the Team as well. Game 4,VIJHL Final Series

The Oceanside Generals are one win away from seeing another goal achieved in the 2009 hockey season. The Gens, who led the series 2-1, going into Tuesday Night's battle at the Meeker Rink at Oceanside Place, in Parksville, in front of about 600 boisterous fans, who were thoroughly entertained in the 5-3 victory, for the home Club. Oceanside's Captain, Matt Potter opened the scoring early in the second, after a fairly even, but scoreless first period. Victoria responded shortly thereafter, but before the five minute mark the Gens regained their lead, on an unassisted marker by Kevin Gray. Victoria came back again, this time with the man advantage, ending the scoring in period two. The third period saw the visitors take the lead, three minutes into the period, but the Gens stormed back with three unanswered goal to deflate the hopeful Cougars. Kyle Yamasaki tied the game, at the seven minute mark. The Gens kept pressing and with four minutes left on the clock, Curtis Yates wired a shot off the crossbar and in, to win it. Kyle Bixby found the twine, with ninety eight seconds left, to give the Generals a 3-1 series lead. Game 5 happens on Thursaday in Victoria. A Fan bus is arranged and we still have a few seats left. Game 3, VIJHL Championship

The Oceanside Generals came to play, early, and handed the hometown Cougars their first home loss of this playoff season, 3-2 to lead the VIJHL's Championship Series, two games to one, on Sunday night in Victoria. Oceanside opened the scoring, before the four minnute mark of the first, on a sniper shot by Curtis Yates, from Taylor Morgan, and Kyle Bixby, on a delayed penalty. And made it a two goal lead, five minutes later, when Doug Hulme got highsticked, and then tipped in a Ty Johns point shot on the ensuing power play. Also in on the play was David Williams, playing strong playoff hockey as are all the Generals. Victoria responded on the power play, just before the period ended, by playoff point leader, Michael Hammond.

Period two was mostly Generals, other than the few penalty kills, but neither team could score. The first half of the last period was tense, for the many Oceanside fans in attendance, with both teams getting chances, but surprise Starter Alex Kwong for Victoria, and Stephen Bolton in net for the visitors, kept both teams off the scoreboard until a shorthanded goal, by Taylor Morgan, set up by shorthanded Ace, Kyle Yamasaki put the Gens up by 2 midway through the third frame. Victoria did close the gap, again with the man advantage, from brother, Gary Hammond this time, but Oceanside kept the pressure up to keep the Cougars at bay. Oceanside had the power play to end the game, but Victoria came close with the Keeper on the bench.

Game 4 will take Place on Tuesday in Parksville, possibly the last home game for this team, and Game 5 will be on Thursday night in Victoria. Bus Tickets will go on sale at the Oceanside Star and at the Game. Only $25, gets you down there and in the game.

Game 2, VIJHL Championship

The Oceanside Generals lived up to their slogan on their warm-ups,(hockey with a vengeance), and scored a well deserved 6-2 victory over the visiting Victoria Cougars Saturday Night in Parksville, as they avenged their loss in Game 1, to even the best of seven series. Kevin Gray scored shorthanded, from Kyle Yamasaki,to open the scoring for the home team, seven minutes into the game. With six thirty three left on the clock in period one, the over five hundred in attendance, saw Kyle Bixby find the net, from Taylor Morgan, and Brad Knapp. Before the period was out the home team had a 3 goal lead, from Sam Kobe, with help from Matt Potter and Doug Hulme. Victoria was the only team to score in the Second frame, Erik Jackaman, from Jared Sweet, and Colin Frederickson. And when Victoria scored early in the third period, on the power play, their only one so far in this this series, the Gens turned it back on and replied less than two minutes later on Adam Desjardins tally from David Williams, and Hulme again. Oceanside's Hulme scored his teams first power play marker, to make it 5-2, with only sx minutes to go. Assists to Ty Johns, and Captain Matt Potter. Scott Austin finished off the scoring for the game from Yamasaki and Gray. Game 3 goes tomorrow, Sunday, March 22, 2009. There are still a few seats left on the Coach heading to Victoria from Oceanside Place, at 4:30 pm. Call Mark at 240-4478 for more info.

Game 1, VIJHL Championship

In what the team may feel as a disapointing loss, The Oceanside Generals should be proud of their determination. The Gens were the dominant team for most of the 2-0 loss to the South Division Champion Victoria Cougars, but a goal against the flow in each of the first two periods, despite outshooting the Cougars 17-3 in the 3rd period, left the game for the Cats. The penalty kill was Oceanside's, best part of their game all night, but the power play couldn't find the back of the net. Oceanside will host the first rematch on Saturday, and game 3 goes Sunday in Victoria.

Announcement

The Oceanside Generals would like to announce the signing of 19 year old forward Mateas Larock, the Courtenay native played the last couple of seasons with the Campbell River Storm. Last year Mateas finished in the top 12 in league scoring. Mateas has always been someone that was very difficult to play against, and will add to our line up. He is a tremendous skater, and has great offensive abilities, but what we like most about what he brings is his work ethic, and his competitiveness. This, with the addition of Ty Johns makes this the biggest January 10th signings in all the years that I have been involved with this organization. Mateas and Ty will make there first home ice appearances this Saturday, when we host the Campbell River Storm

We are looking for a safe, welcoming family environment for our out of town players to call home. Please reply to info@parksvillegenerals.org, or 250-951-2814
